PayKickstart now supports a wider range of Local and One-Time Payment Methods through our Stripe integration. This allows you to accept payments via popular regional methods (such as Klarna, iDEAL, Alipay, etc.) tailored to your customers’ location and currency.

However, because many of these payment methods are designed for a single transaction only (and cannot store data for future charges), there are specific rules regarding when they will appear on your checkout page.

How It Works

Stripe offers two types of payment methods:

  1. Reusable Methods: (e.g., Credit Cards) Can be stored to charge the customer again later (Subscriptions, 1-Click Upsells).

  2. One-Time Methods: (e.g., many Local Payment Methods) Good for a single purchase only. The customer must re-authenticate for every transaction.

To prevent failed payments on subscriptions or upsells, PayKickstart automatically filters which methods are shown to your customers based on what is in their cart and your Campaign settings.

Enabling One-Time Payment Methods

To start using these additional payment methods, you must configure your Campaign settings to allow them.

  1. Navigate to Campaigns and select the specific Campaign you wish to edit.

  2. Access the Payments tab and to locate the Payment Gateways section (ensure Stripe is enabled).

  3. Locate the setting labeled: 1-Click Upsells.

  4. Disable the 1-Click Upsells option to begin supporting the one-time payment methods on your checkout forms.

  5. Uncheck Disable 1-off Payment Methods

Note: Choose which payment methods are available at checkout for one-time purchases only. When enabled, these methods will be shown to customers purchasing non-subscription products.

Note: If your funnel includes a subscription-based upsell, customers will need to complete checkout using a different payment method that supports subscriptions.

How to Enable the Additional Payment Options in Stripe:

Step 1: Log in to your Stripe account and go to settings

  • Log in to your Stripe dashboard.

  • Click the Settings gear icon, typically found in the upper-right corner.

  • Under "Product settings," click on Payments.

Step 2: Enable payment methods

  • Go to the Payment methods tab.

  • Find the payment method you'd like to activate and click Turn on next to each to activate them.

  • Ensure your account is eligible by checking the settings, as some business categories are prohibited.

When Will These Methods Appear?

Even if enabled in your settings, "One-Time" payment methods will only appear on the checkout page if specific criteria are met.

They will appear if:

  • The customer is purchasing a One-Time (Front End) product.

  • The customer's Currency matches the payment method's supported currency.

  • The customer's Geolocation (IP or Billing Country) matches the method's supported region.

They will NOT appear (and will be hidden automatically) if:

  • The main product in the cart is a Subscription.

  • An Order Bump in the cart is a Subscription.

  • 1-Click Upsells are enabled for the funnel.

Here is an example of what your checkout form Payment Method section will look like:

Supported Payment Methods by Transaction Type

Different payment methods have different capabilities. Some support recurring billing (subscriptions), while others are strictly for one-time purchases. Below is a breakdown of supported methods for USD and EUR currencies:

USD (United States Dollar) - example

One-Time Purchase

Card, ACH, Klarna, Affirm, AfterPay

Recurring (Subscription)

Card, ACH, Klarna

Authorize Payment (Recurring)

EUR (Euro) - example

A Note on Funnels & Upsells

If you wish to offer the local payment methods, you generally must Disable 1-Click Upsells for that specific Campaign.

Because these payment methods cannot store a "token" for future use, the system cannot perform a "1-Click" charge later in the funnel. If you require a 1-Click Upsell flow, the system will restrict payment options to those that support it (Credit Cards, or Wire Transfers).

Limitations

Please be aware of the following limitations when processing transactions via One-Time payment methods:

  • No Upgrades/Downgrades: You cannot change a customer's product via "Upgrade" later, as there is no stored payment profile to charge the difference.

  • No Manual Transactions: You cannot manually run a reference transaction (charge the card on file) later.

  • Upsell Purchasing: If you have upsells in your funnel, the customer will likely need to re-enter payment details or authenticate again for the upsell step.

Troubleshooting: Why isn't a payment method showing up?

If you have enabled the setting but do not see a specific payment option (e.g., iDEAL) on your checkout, check the following:

  1. Is the product a Subscription?
If yes, one-time methods are disabled.

  2. Is the Order Bump a Subscription?
If yes, one-time methods are disabled.

  3. Are 1-Click Upsells enabled?
If yes, the system forces reusable payment methods only.

  4. Is the Currency correct?
    (e.g., iDEAL requires EUR).

  5. Is the Transaction Amount valid?
Some local methods have minimum transaction amounts
(e.g., equivalent to $0.50 or more).
